‘This has been a year like no other, but among the challenges and tragedies are stories of hope from individuals who have dedicated their lives to changing the future.

‘We’d usually celebrate these pioneers and heroes at a green-carpet event, and we’re really sad that can’t happen this year. Still, we won’t let lockdown stop us from getting together to recognise and congratulate them for all their hard work!’

JARVIS SMITH
Founder, P.E.A. Awards

This year’s P.E.A. Awards ceremony attracted two new sponsors: Deloitte and Citrix. The two global companies are huge players that have committed to sustainability and purpose-driven business.

‘We hope this is a sign of things to come in businesses operating on the world stage’, said P.E.A. Awards founder Jarvis Smith; ‘if it’s not, we’re in big trouble!’

Sustainability now mainstream

Entries this year came in from the UK and beyond, in sectors ranging from Arts to Money.

They were judged by an all-female panel, comprising Cat Fletcher, Jo Wood, Jordan Brompton, Katie Hill, Michelle Senecal de Fonseca and Safia Minney.

‘P.E.A. judges always have a tough job, and that was more true this year than ever. The entries were extremely diverse, demonstrating the creativity and dedication of eco pioneers all over the UK. 10 years after the P.E.A. Awards launched, it’s fair to say that sustainability has become a mainstream issue that’s being championed by everyday heroes from all walks of life.

Eco-Hero of the Decade

A new category has been launched this year to mark the P.E.A. Awards’ 10th birthday. The P.E.A. Eco-Hero of the Decade will be given to

Climate change is now firmly on the agenda. It has become a mainstream issue that’s discussed daily – round dinner tables, in schools, at the workplace and in politics and the media. This wasn’t the case 10 years ago when the P.E.A. Awards started out.

The shift has been the result of gargantuan efforts by individuals all over the world. There are three people who we feel have made enormous contribution to getting the climate crisis into mainstream discourse. They are:

  • Caroline Lucas
  • Sir David Attenborough
  • Greta Thunberg

During the live online P.E.A. Awards event, virtual guests will be asked to vote for their Eco-Hero of the Decade.
